Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how SafeTogether collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal information. All data is stored on a secure server located in Switzerland.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you register, we collect your first name, last name, and phone number for identity verification purposes. This information is kept private and is not publicly visible.

1.2 Location Data

The App collects location data in two modes:

  • Foreground location: collected while the App is open to display the map and nearby incidents.
  • Background location (optional): if enabled, the App can send notifications about nearby incidents even when closed. This requires explicit consent and can be disabled at any time.

1.3 Address Information

You may optionally provide a primary and secondary address to receive targeted alerts for specific locations such as your home and workplace.

1.4 Incident Reports

When you report an incident, we collect the event type, location, description, and any photos you choose to attach.

1.5 Device Information

We collect a unique installation identifier and device token for push notification delivery. No other device metadata is collected.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Verify your identity and ensure community trust
  • Display relevant incidents on the map near your location
  • Send push notifications based on your location preferences and alert radius
  • Allow emergency services to assist you if needed
  • Improve the safety and reliability of the App
  • Investigate and resolve reports of abuse or policy violations

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Data Storage and Security

All personal data is stored on secure servers in Switzerland, subject to Swiss federal data protection law (nFADP). We implement the following security measures:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS) and at rest
  • Access controls limiting who can access your data
  • Regular security reviews and updates
  • Secure token-based authentication

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time via "Profile → Delete Account". Upon deletion:

  • Your identity and address information is permanently removed
  • Incident reports you submitted are anonymized and may be retained for community safety purposes
  • Push notification tokens are immediately invalidated

5. Your Rights

Under applicable data protection law, you have the right to:

Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you

Rectification: Correct inaccurate or incomplete information

Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data

Restriction: Ask us to limit how we process your data

Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format

SafeTogether is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes through the App. Your continued use of the App after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
